Waiting by Erin Dennington ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chapter 40 Christina shut the door to Tommy's room and proceeded down the hallway to Becca's room, where, after knocking and receiving no reply, she cracked open the door and took a peek inside. Both of her children had fallen asleep as soon as their heads hit the pillows, and she was glad, for they had had a very stressful morning. They needed all of the sleep they could get. Memories of their lunch flooded through Christina and she felt a warmth spread throughout her body. It was most likely the happiest she had felt in years. She sincerely hoped that this feeling would not disappear as quickly as it had in the past, that day 5 years ago when she'd buried her third and last child. The nervous breakdown and post traumatic stress disorder had triggered the depression, her doctor said, and most likely led to her feelings of worthlessness. It had not been something she thought she could or would ever recover from. "Well, didn't I show you all?" she asked and chuckled, momentarily banishing her deepest fears to the corners of her mind. Cleaning and putting away the juice glasses, she dampened a sponge and swept the kitchen table for crumbs. Satisfied that the kitchen was once again spotless, she headed into her den and switched on her computer. She checked her email and then began the searching that she knew would only lead to the inevitable conclusion, which she had already drawn when Matthew had called. It was a conclusion which she was unprepared to face. "1 match," the search engine said, and knowing that this was it, she clicked on the link and shut her eyes.
