Waiting by Erin Dennington

Chapter 76

Bill hurried as fast as he could back to the van, knowing that time was rapidly disappearing if they were to get this done with. It was hard to navigate the icy patches in the darkness, but luck must have been with him, for he managed to stay upon his feet the entire time he was outside Kramer Institutes.

There was always a spare tape inside of his personal camcorder, which he now set to record the date and time of the tape, as well as his the exact GPS location of where he was standing. It had been a novelty toy, a splurge, one Christmas, but every now and then Bill had found that it was useful. It would definitely come in handy now. He was glad that, in his awe and enthusiasm to be finally scoring an interview with Davis, he had accidentally let it slip just how much of a journalism and technology driven geek he was.

Returning to the door in which he had exited, Bill was glad that he had thought ahead to how he would re-enter the building, for he saw that there was no handle on this side. He had left his gloves in the crack of the door, letting the door shut most of the way. They had been just flexible and small enough that, from a distance of 3 or more feet away, he had seen that the door appeared to be shut.

"Score one for the good guys," he thought to himself. "Minus one for the bad guys."

Reaching down and picking up his gloves, he noticed that a wet footprint appeared to lead down the hallway from where he was standing. Afraid that he had been discovered, he walked as quietly as he could back to Kramer Institute's lobby area. There was no one in the lobby, so he headed to the door that led to what he assumed was the laboratory area. His assumption proved correct when he ran into Marty, who was talking to a man that Bill vaguely recognized.
