Chapter 55

Christina felt ashamed of herself for losing control like that, but she couldn't help it. When she saw the face of the man, she'd immediately felt a crushing sense of loss. For him to be implicated in this video, along with the insects, meant only one thing -- he'd betrayed her, their company, and their country. And the worst thing was she had slept with him for every night of their marriage.

A tear leaked out of the corner of her eye. She angrily brushed it away, knowing that it was stupid to cry over Matthew's betrayal. She'd guessed as much when she read the manifesto online, but had been unwillingly to believe it to be true. Now, with the facts staring her in the face, she knew that there could never be any more doubt that he was involved.

She remembered the first time they had been alone together. He'd bought her a sandwich from her favorite deli while they studied for their organic chemistry mid-term together. He'd been such a sweetheart to her, taking care of her, showing her things that she had difficulty with, and opening his heart up to her about his life. She'd known then that they would always be together.

Wrenching her mind away from the painful memories, she forced her gaze back to the screen, where her soon to be husband was sitting down in front of a chemistry set, about to explain an experiment of his.
