Chapter 51

The man followed the teenager's car at a discreet distance, staying about 3 cars behind the rental. He didn't know where she was headed, but his instructions were clear on what he was supposed to do now: not lose sight of her and report her whereabouts to his boss.

Watching her climb out of the car and kiss her father's cheek, he studied her movements, her way of walking. Not knowing anything about her background beyond the fact that she was from Florida, he guessed that she was a dancer, which would make her well aware of her surroundings. She would be a tricky one to take down if it came to that. She could probably outrun him, and, on this ice, her agility would be a key factor in her getting away. He could not let that happen, no matter what. Making sure his automatic and silencer were in his coat pocket, he grabbed a box and headed across the street.

Posed as a handyman, he gained entry to the building without anyone saying a word to him. He hadn't thought it would be difficult to get in, as it was early evening and not many were out in the weather, anyway, but he always came prepared. Whistling softly under his breath, he patiently stood next to the elevator, by two men carrying cameras and other paraphernalia. Apparently the teenager had already reached her destination.

The elevator opened with a soft ding and they boarded the elevator. Taking his cues from these men, he glanced at the control panel and pretended he was going to the same floor as they. "It's getting worse out there," he said, striking up a little normal conversation to throw any curiousity away from him.

His watch caught a glint from the mirrored walls, and he squinted, trying to make out the time. It was now 5:25.
