Chapter 50

Christina didn't know what she was doing. This man was going to do an interview about her accident and she knew that wouldnt be received well by her husband. "But," she told herself, "It doesn't matter now."

Christina was determined to do something about the mess that had started 15 years ago, to right the wrong she knew had been committed. But she needed Davis' help -- his money, his influence -- and Bill's -- his ability to air the news -- in order to do so.

She had already read through the documents she carried in her arms, but she went over them a second time, underlining sentences and making notations of things that need to be changed.

She listened for footsteps, aware that the room was really quiet without anyone in it. It spooked her a little, knowing how alone she was, when she most wanted to be around other people.

Behind her, a cloud of insects hovered against the window, crawling over each other in their sluggish way. They disappeared when the Korean girl, Stella, came to the office door and poked her head inside. Christina wasn't even aware of what happened, so taken was she by Stella's appearance.
