Chapter 37

Stella glanced at the clock on the night table beside her hotel bed. It was a little after 2 in the afternoon and she was once again feeling energetic and in the mood to get up and dance. The only problem was that Rose wanted to sleep, Rose who was never a morning person and who had missed out on her sleep over the night.

Not knowing where else she could go, Stella flopped onto the bed and picked up the note that shed almost lost this morning down at the accident site.

She still had no idea who could have sent her the note, as she neither recognized the handwriting or the paper that it was written on. Studying the paper even closer, she noticed what appeared to be a letterhead for a company. She must have missed it in her haste earlier, but parts of the words were visible, enough so that it looked like it was K something Institutes. She shrugged. Stella didnt recognize the name and was pretty sure it was not a big company that she would have had exposure to, anyway.

Curious, she grabbed the complimentary phonebook and flipped through the yellow pages until she found an alphabetical listing of area corporations. Stopping at the K page, she ran her finger down until it stopped at Kramer Institutes. Intrigued, she jotted down the phone number and address, knowing that she most likely would not get a chance to pursue this.

Grow up, Nancy Drew, she thought, laughing at herself. Your parents arent going to let you go to some strange place all by yourself.

Seeing nothing else that might lend a clue, she refolded the paper, smoothing out the wrinkles, and put it into her pocket. The thought crossed her mind that perhaps Davis Jackson would be able to help her solve her mystery. Not only was he a rich man, but he seemed to be a fairly intelligent one, too.

Sighing, Stella got up and went to knock on her parents room. She told her father, who blinked bleary eyes at her, that she was going down to the hotel lobby to get a magazine. Thrusting a folded five dollar bill into her hand, he told her to go ahead and by herself a snack.

As she headed toward the stairs that would take her to the lobby, she checked the watch on her arm. 2:43. About 2 more hours until she got to experience some more excitement.
