Chapter 36

Davis awoke and was momentarily puzzled as to where he was. Then the events of the morning slammed back into him and he remembered. His body was sore all over and ached in places that he did not know even existed.

Turning over on his side, he folded his arms and rested them underneath his head. Thoughts of the morning swirled around in his head. Thoughts of his impending interview and announcement to the world popped in, unbidden, and he groaned. He still needed to call Bethany and begin the process of breaking the news.

�Aw, shit,� he thought, and sitting up, reached for the telephone and hit the number that dialed his home. Sliding the earpiece over his right ear, he settled down and got comfortable once again.

The phone rang twice and then was picked up by his maid. �Put Bethany on the phone,� he said, and then added in a �please� for good measure. The thought occurred to him that he was learning, after all.

�Hello, Bethany,� he said, and paused, unsure where to begin, and then decided to just take the plunge and follow this wherever it may lead. �I have something I need to tell you....�
