Chapter 30

Davis finished giving his statement and, talking to Bill, began to wander back to his office. They joked that it had taken an accident to bring the two of them talking and Davis promised Bill that, when the day was over, he would grant Bill an exclusive interview. Although Bill was merely a cameraman, he had been looking for his chance to break into the world of journalism as a reporter. They set a time for 5:00 and agreed to meet in Davis' office.

They were still talking when they had reached the entrance to Davis's building. Bill paused in the middle of a sentence, his jaw gaping. Although he was able to compose himself better, Davis was surprised to see, standing in front of his building, the woman from the accident together with Stella.

Davis introduced the pretty teenager to the cameraman, and then, extending his hand for a handshake, he asked the other woman her name. "Christina," she said, and they shook hands. She thanked him and Bill for all of their work on trying to rescue her and the children; standing on tiptoe, she gently kissed each of their cheeks. Blushing, she backed away and watched the two men talk to Stella.

Bill cocked a hand to his forehead in a mock salute, said, "Later," and jogged over to his van. He appeared unable to tear his gaze away from the 17 year old, as he repeatedly glanced back over his shoulder.
