Waiting by Erin Dennington

Chapter 23

By the time the emergency vehicles had pulled up and stopped, the amount of reporters had once again grown to the epidemic proportions that once huddled outside of Davis' office building. He inwardly smiled at the ironic twist of it all.

He and Bill were ordered away from the car and they went, willingly, and found themselves next to the woman from the van. She had been examined by the paramedics already and deemed fit. She seemed as mesmerized as the two men, and, while waiting to speak to the police to give her statement, she kept her eyes on the rescue efforts in front of her.

Although the streets were horrible to drive upon, there were a few vehicles that were stuck, since this was one of Dc's infamous "one way streets." Davis felt bad for those people, some of whom probably had somewhere they really needed to be at the present moment.

For the first time since he'd received the news at the doctor's office, Davis felt strangely buoyant. Although he knew that he should feel ashamed of himself for feeling this way, he couldn't help but feel like he had been given a second chance at life. The first chance he got, he was going to call his wife and tell her the news.
